I recently tried out RockBox Fitness Cypress, and let me just say — this class was a workout and an experience all in one. RockBox is known for combining boxing-inspired bag work with strength training in high-energy, 50-minute sessions. The best part? Every class is different, so you never know exactly what’s coming. Some days focus only on boxing, while others (like the one I took) mix in rounds on the strength floor for a full-body sweat.

RockBox isn’t your typical gym. Instead of rows of treadmills and mirrors everywhere, their approach is about movement, variety, and intensity. With over 900 different exercises in rotation, the workouts are designed to keep you engaged, help you burn serious calories, and build strength without ever feeling repetitive. And for anyone who’s ever wanted to try boxing without stepping into a competitive ring, this is the perfect balance of intensity and accessibility.

My First Class at Cypress

When I walked into RockBox Fitness Cypress, the energy was high but welcoming. The members were friendly, and even though it was my first time, I didn’t feel out of place. One woman even noticed I was new and helped explain some of the coach’s cues so I didn’t miss a beat, which made me feel really supported.

The setup was simple: you pick your starting point — either the long heavy bag or the teardrop bag. I chose the teardrop and jumped straight into combinations. We worked through mixes of jabs, crosses, hooks, and uppercuts, and then added in front kicks, side kicks, and roundhouse kicks. It was high intensity right from the start, but fun in a way that made me forget how hard I was working.

From there, we switched over to the strength floor, where we rotated through a circuit of movements. My round included bicycles, plank jacks, Russian twists, and squat-to-shoulder presses — plus a few other exercises mixed in to keep things challenging. Each one was run through twice before moving on, so by the time we wrapped that round, my core and shoulders were definitely feeling it.

After the strength work, we rotated back to the bags, but this time we switched stations. I moved over to the long heavy bag and ran through the combinations the other group had started with. This back-and-forth kept things moving quickly, and before I knew it, we were finishing the workout with another strength round and a much-needed stretch.

My Favorite Part

One of the highlights for me was when the coach gave us time to freestyle on the bags. For a few minutes, we got to throw whatever punches and kicks we wanted, and it was such a fun way to let out energy. I’ve always wanted to try boxing classes, and RockBox felt like the perfect entry point. It was empowering without being overwhelming, and I left sweaty, sore, and smiling.

Final Thoughts

Overall, my first RockBox class was fun, challenging, and different from anything else I’ve tried. The atmosphere was supportive, the workout kept me moving the whole time, and the freestyle round gave me the chance to just let go and enjoy the movement.

I can absolutely see myself coming back — not just for the calorie burn, but because it’s such an engaging way to work out. If you’ve been curious about boxing but want a class that’s accessible, energetic, and community-driven, RockBox Fitness Cypress is worth checking out. And the best part? Your first class is free, so there’s no excuse not to give it a shot.
