What is Orangetheory Fitness?

Orangetheory Fitness is a heart rate-based interval training workout designed to help you burn calories efficiently while building strength and endurance — both during class and for hours after. This is thanks to the afterburn effect (also called EPOC: Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption), which boosts your metabolism even after you leave the studio.

Each one-hour class includes:

✅ Treadmill Intervals — Cardio-focused segments that push your heart rate into fat-burning zones.
✅ Rowing Machines — Full-body power movements that engage major muscle groups.
✅ Floor Exercises — Strength training with dumbbells, TRX bands, and bodyweight exercises.

To maximize your workout, you’ll wear a heart rate monitor that tracks your performance live on-screen. The goal is to spend at least 12 minutes in the “Orange Zone”, where your heart rate is elevated to a level that helps trigger the afterburn effect for increased calorie burn throughout the day.

You can rent or purchase a heart rate monitor directly from the studio, making it easy for beginners and regulars alike to track their progress.

My Personal Experience at Orangetheory

Having been both a member and an employee at Orangetheory, I’ve seen firsthand how effective this program can be.

  •  For Results: To see noticeable changes quickly, I recommend attending classes 4-5 days a week. I followed this routine myself and saw significant progress — and I witnessed the same results in countless members who committed to this schedule.
  •  For Budget-Conscious Members: If you’re hesitant about the cost, Orangetheory’s two-month commitment option is a great way to test the waters. If you stay consistent with 4-5 classes per week during those two months, you’re likely to see impressive results.
  • For Energy & Motivation: The upbeat music is a game-changer — it keeps you pumped and motivated throughout class. Plus, the studio often hosts themed workouts and fitness challenges year-round, adding a fun twist to your routine.
  •  For Variety: One of the best parts? The workout changes daily, so you’ll never get bored or feel stuck in the same routine.
  • For Dedicated Gym-Goers: With their unlimited membership for around $179/month, you can even take multiple classes in one day if you’re feeling extra motivated.
  • For Flexible Options: Orangetheory also offers other plans with fewer classes per month, and if you’re not ready to commit, class packs allow for pay-per-session flexibility.
  •  For First-Timers: Curious to try Orangetheory? Your first class is free, so you can experience it with no pressure.
